Humelink Project – Overview and Key Issues for Landowners
Overview
HumeLink is a major electricity transmission project being delivered by Transgrid in regional New South Wales. The project involves the construction of approximately 360 km of new high-voltage transmission lines and associated infrastructure to connect Snowy Hydro 2.0 with the broader NSW electricity network.
We have acted for a number of landowners affected by the HumeLink project. In doing so, we have successfully negotiated compensation outcomes significantly higher than those initially offered by Transgrid, without the need to commence proceedings in the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales.
Key Issues for Landowners
Our clients were faced with a range of legal and practical issues, including:
- The imposition of transmission line easements their private land
- Visual and environmental impacts associated with towers and infrastructure
- Restrictions on land use within easement areas
- Biosecurity risks and disruption during construction and maintenance
- Impacts on property value and agricultural productivity
These issues required careful consideration and, in many cases, early legal and valuation advice to ensure landowners’ rights and interests were appropriately protected.
